Short-term therapy

Short-term therapy is a goal-oriented and time-limited approach suitable for situations where you want to focus on one or a few specific challenges. It can be an effective option for addressing issues such as anxiety, burnout, mild depression, stress, or life changes.

The work is evidence-based and progresses according to your situation, at a calm and safe pace. In short-term therapy, the focus is on practical insights and strategies that support everyday coping and strengthen your functional capacity even after therapy has ended.

Some health insurance policies cover short-term therapy sessions, typically up to around 20 visits. Coverage and reimbursement terms vary between insurers, so it’s a good idea to check your own policy in advance. With an approved reimbursement decision, billing can be handled directly with the insurance company.

Long-term psychotherapy

Long-term psychotherapy involves an extended therapeutic relationship when life circumstances, symptoms, or recurring difficulties require deeper and more sustained work.

Long-term psychotherapy may be relevant, for example, in cases of persistent depression, anxiety disorders, trauma-related experiences, neurodivergence challenges, or recurring difficulties in relationships or life management.

The work progresses at a calm or faster pace, always confidentially and tailored to individual needs. The therapy aims to understand the underlying factors of symptoms and behavioral patterns, and to strengthen lasting changes in thinking, emotional regulation, and everyday functioning.

Kela supported rehabilitive psychotherapy

Kela rehabilitation psychotherapy is a Kela-supported form of psychotherapy aimed at supporting work and study ability in situations where mental health challenges make daily functioning, work, or studies difficult.

To access rehabilitation psychotherapy, you can visit a psychiatrist through the healthcare system. If your situation significantly affects your work or study ability, the psychiatrist will assess your condition and, if necessary, provide a B-statement along with a recommendation for Kela-supported psychotherapy. Kela’s decision is based on this assessment.

Once Kela has approved the support decision, the client only pays the co-payment for therapy sessions. Kela’s portion is billed directly to Kela, so the client does not need to apply for reimbursement separately. Therapy can also begin before Kela’s approval, in which case the sessions are self-funded until a positive decision is received.

Counseling

Counseling provides conversational support for temporary life situations or for occasional, ongoing needs for guidance and reflection. They can be useful, for example, in relieving stress related to demanding client work, processing experiences, and supporting emotional work when the goal is to restore balance and strengthen everyday resources.

Counseling is not psychotherapy, but a lighter and more flexible form of support for situations where you do not need a long-term or regular therapeutic relationship, yet could benefit from professional guidance and structured reflection.

Consultation

Consultation provides expert support for questions related to psychological or psychotherapeutic work. It can include, for example, professional reflection, case-specific assessments, or structuring your work in situations where you need an external perspective.

If needed, it is also possible to arrange supervision-based work tailored to individual needs.

Seminars

The seminars are aimed at individuals or groups and cover topics such as life management, the basics of emotional work, understanding and responding to others’ emotions, the fundamental principles of mindfulness, or other general psychological concepts. The content is always designed to be practical and concrete, so participants can apply what they learn to their everyday life or work.
